James Lileks is featuring the downtown district of random communities in a Bleat feature he calls "Main Street: What's left, and what we've lost." Today he made me want to visit Ellenburg, Washington.
I will see Ellensburg the way he did, which is via Google Street Maps, and that will work. But I did go an extra step and look for its location on a regular map. It's in the middle of the state, home of Central Washington University.
I scanned through the list of notable people who call Ellensburg their home town. The tallest teenager in the world is from Ellensburg. He'll be 20 next year, though, and the distinction will move to someone else. And then there's Dave Heaverlo, who was a major-league relief pitcher in the 1970s.
