Liberal reward!

From the Democrat and Herald (Wilmington, Ohio) of June 28, 1839. Jacob LaRue's $16 then would be about $413 in today's dollars.

I am curious about "two new one dollar bills on the Xenia bank."   Here is a photo of the Xenia Bank. It was practically new at the time. Did banks issue their own currency? If I could find the answer in one Google, I would supply it. Meanwhile I am having enough trouble trying to sort out one Jacob LaRue from all the others.

No, wait. Once I came up with the right phrasing, I found my answer. Banks did issue their own currency at the time. Thank you, Andrew Jackson!
