The news is all about the extreme cold we are to experience tomorrow and Monday. I suppose we are "prepared" in the sense that we went to the grocery store Friday, the Christmas decorations are put away and we have a lull between house guests.
Our local forecast is for a low of -6 tomorrow and a high of 6 on Monday. Plenty cold. But it, thankfully, can't hold a candle to that -37 in Atlantic, Iowa, on January 12, 1974. That was a Saturday and for some reason I felt we needed to "go to town." LohMan got our VW started, which seems amazing considering the car was not garaged.
I can remember hopping out of the car to run this vital errand and being stunned by the depth of the cold. Forty years and the Big Chill lives on.
Too bad I don't know the Big Wind Chill Factor for that day.
