I'm going through old family photos and memorabilia. I decided to scan and post some of the cards my grandmother had saved. There aren't very many but they offer glimpses into correspondence from the first half of the 20th century. This Easter card included a note from the sender, a great-aunt of Grandma's. Aunt Alice refers to "this uncalled for unrest," the enlistment of her grandson and the fact that her neighbor's son was in "3 battles and had 3 ribs smashed in the Solomons but is OK." He came home for a visit and stopped in to see Alice and George. "He is a sailor. The Irish is tuft and can take it."
Thanks to the Internet and this brief note (signed Mr. and Mrs. Kesler, no first names), within 10 minutes I had found an obituary for Alice R. Kesler. Which I posted to Find-A-Grave.
Here is Aunt Alice's card from the Easter of 1942.
