Since both called Illinois home when they were running for and elected to the Presidency, comparisons between the 16th and 44th presidents have been a popular topic. Here is a really bizarre one: A woman arranged over 5,600 decorated cupcakes to create side-by-side portraits of Lincoln and Obama (actually Obama and Lincoln, but I am trying to keep the numbers in order) on the floor of the Smithsonian American Art Museum in tribute to Abe's 200th birthday.
A few other morsels:
Mr.President, you're no Lincoln (by professor and author Allen C. Guelzo).
The comparisons ... (by historian Matthew Dallek).
The real ties ... (CNN commentary by Lincoln scholar Harold Holzer).
And here's a look at the way both 2012 candidates evoke the 16th president.
Vote Lincoln in 2012 (from the "Historically Corrected" series in the NYT).
