Two things made a big impression on me when our family moved to mid-Missouri from southern Texas. The exotic flowers that were growing in the front yard -- iris and daffodil. Wow! And the incinerator in the back yard -- we could burn papers and stuff. Wow!
A lot of years have come and gone since then. But I thought of being newly Missourian this morning when I noticed a daffodil blooming near the rusty burn barrel on the edge of our property. In this case, the daffodil looks like flame to me.
