Mitch Miller died Saturday. I thought he died years ago. I wasn't much of a fan of his "Sing along with Mitch" TV show but my dad and sister enjoyed it. All those men and the only good-looking one that I can recall was that tenor, Bob, who later appeared in "Sesame Street."
I bought a Jo Stafford box set a few years ago and the accompanying booklet mentioned that her work suffered at Columbia Records after Mitch Miller took the helm. He was big into novelty songs.
Mitch Miller: oboist, record producer, forearm mover (very tight directing style with his chorus, anyway). Be kind to your web-footed friends, for that duck may be somebody's mother.
