We Netflixed "Miracle," the 2004 Kurt Russell movie about the 1980 U.S.A. hockey team at Lake Placid. It includes a portion of that malaise speech by President Carter. It was unnerving to listen to his angry berating of Americans and then segue into a US-USSR hockey game that makes you feel great to be an American -- to watch those young Americans working as a team against a machine. I'll believe in miracles before I'll swallow some dreary lecture.
