If you have an affection for The New Christy Minstrels, The Limeliters or similar folk music performers, check out "A Mighty Wind." This is a Christopher Guest mockumentary, which is to say it's pure comedy treated like a documentary. Guest uses an ensemble in his work -- who all seem to be wizards at improvisation and music -- and they become your friends.
I checked amazon.com to see what else there was and there was good stuff. "Waiting for Guffman" is about a little theater company putting together a musical to celebrate the sesquicentennial of Blaine, Missouri.
And then there's "Best in Show," which is about show dogs. Who is the best in show? Fred Willard, hands down. He does the color commentary for the dog show and he is amazing. Ed Begley, Jr., is something else, too.
Along with "This Is Spinal Tap" (which is hilarious), I guess we've pretty much seen all the documentary satires from Christopher Guest. I'm thoroughly charmed by them.
