You need to watch a documentary about the Nazis every once in a while to get your blood flowing. Tonight it's "The Rape of Europa," about the theft and destruction of art during World War II. The first part of the film focuses on the Gustav Klimt paintings commissioned by Ferdinand and Adele Bloch-Bauer. I had never heard of the artist but the portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer is really remarkable. The present owner is Ronald Lauder (of Estée fame).
The return of looted art treasures to rightful owners -- one woman in the film called this the victory of beauty over horror and disaster.
"The Rape of Europa" is an excellent film.
