We bought an electric fryer big enough to cook a 12-pound turkey. It hasn't come yet but this description of the product and process gives me confidence that it will be a worthwhile purchase.
The whole idea of a "traditional turkey frying process" seems bizarre. While trying to determine when the craze caught on, I found a website that says people in the South have been frying turkeys for a long time. The site recommends making a cradle out of a couple of coat hangers as a way to transfer the bird in and out of the oil. Yikes. I like the snug basket and handles on the Masterbuilt contraption already!
Let's all get Dixie fried.
