When I was in fifth grade, I discovered a series of biographies in the school library. They were all bound in orange so after I'd read one, it was easy enough to choose my next adventure. More fiction than fact, I suppose, but I enjoyed them when I was 9.
NOTE: Here's one I particularly remembered, Narcissa Whitman, pioneer girl.
Sam Wellman has a website that put me in mind of those old books. He calls it "Heroes of History." I came upon it while looking for information on Gladys Aylward, an English maid-turned-missionary whose life story formed the basis of "Inn of the Sixth Happiness." We watched that last night although I missed the last few minutes. That movie was 158 minutes long, which is 68 minutes longer than I like my standard fare.
