Connecticut has a state hero (see below). Massachusetts has a state heroine and a state folk hero. I have hunted for some time for a website that makes it easy to compare all state whatevers. You need to know if your state is willing to confront trivialities or not, don't you?
This netstate.com page is the best one I've seen yet. There's a pull-down menu in the upper right. You can choose a symbol/emblem, such as beverage, and see what's on the table. In Alabama it's Conecuh Ridge Alabama Fine Whiskey. Because we all associate whiskey with Alabama. Kentucky? Milk. What did you expect? Indiana picked water. And it looks like Nebraska has gone around the bend, beveragewise.

But the info is there under Culture. The hero business has been slow to catch on. There are some for whom the Georgia State 'Possum is a hero, I suppose.
