We agreed to forget all past misunderstandings but then along came 1812 and brand-new misunderstandings.

"We have met the enemy and they are ours," reported Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, after his victory in the Battle of Lake Erie on September 10, 1813. "Two ships, two brigs, one schooner and one sloop."

Perry was 27 at the time.
