Poke in my eye

In previous years I pulled the pokeweed that grew by our deck. It got so tall and those dark berries left an inky stain. Then I learned what the weed was called and what it was good for, which is providing bird food. So I've left it alone this year.
It's a bizarre plant if you look at it closely. I posted a picture in July and called it "Alien Weed." The stalk is pink (like a rhubarb plant) and the plant stems are hot pink. As I've waited for the berries to form and then darken, I discovered that I've grown attached to pokeweed.
