The only popular song I remember ever hearing my grandmother mention is "Little Green Apples." She was born in 1893 and I have no idea if she liked or even knew the popular music of her day or of her son's day. I do like knowing that this tune struck a response within her.
Written by Bobby Russell (who used to be married to Vicki Lawrence) and first recorded by Roger Miller, it was O.C. Smith's biggest hit.
Maybe Grandma was a closet Dean Martin fan. She could have done worse. Grandma probably heard this version but without the words, it's just a song. Admittedly, those Golden Delicious blazers are memorable.
Too many little green apples? Just one more. Consider it dessert.
