Weren't people putting some sort of reflective paint on their roofs 20 years ago? And didn't it make the house look like it had been subjected to a really cheap DIY effort? Save energy and devalue your home in one coat.
I grew up in southern Texas. A white roof there was SOP 50 years ago and I assume it still is.
Aerial-view maps will make quick and fun work of finding out where the problem zones are, anyway.
