The census taker for Oregon county, Missouri, in 1850 did some graceful entries on this page. You picture him (A.E. Williams?) getting fed up with the monotony of it all and deciding to have some fun with the wide column, the one where he is to record place of birth. Thanks to microfilm, the enumerator's "wave" in this case was a permanent wave.
