Six 3-ounce boxes of Jell-O
- Grape
- Berry Blue
- Lime
- Lemon
- Orange
- Strawberry (or any other red)
9x13 glass pan (glass for show; a metal pan would work, too)
I. Dissolve grape Jell-O in 1 cup boiling water.
II. To ⅓ cup of sour cream, add ½ cup of the Jell-O mixture. Pour this in the 9x13 pan. Chill the Jell-O/sour cream mixture 20 minutes.
III. To remaining ½ cup of the Jell-O, add 3 T. cold water. This needs to cool off so that it won't melt the first layer of Jell-O but you don't want it to set.
IV. Repeat with the other flavors, alternating the sour cream Jell-O with the plain.
Voice of Experience:
This takes some time and a level refrigerator shelf. There are variations, such as with evaporated milk, but the sour cream version tastes better. If you can't find grape Jell-O, I guess you could put food coloring in blue or red varieties. Or just do a 10-layer version. You can use sugarfree gelatin, too, although I have never seen it in blue. You won't need the entire 24 ounces of sour cream but the 16-ounce carton isn't enough. Nowadays 16 ounces of sour cream is not 2 cups. I wonder how that happened?
