This article is from the Niles' National Register of December 3, 1842. I thought it was funny.
The current Capitol is the third one at Jefferson City. The "our house" referenced in the 1842 article would be the second one. It was practically brand-new at the time of the article, having been constructed in 1837-38. It was destroyed by fire when it was struck by lightning on Sunday, February 5, 1911.
The third Capitol was built on the same spot as the second. Lightning doesn't strike twice in the same place, you know. Nice location.
