In Episode 1, Season 2 of "Highway Patrol," a wanted man eludes capture. He turns on the charm to people he meets and has no trouble finding Good Samaritans who want to help him. Not two minutes after Lt. Dan Matthews tells the people in a roadside cafe that a dangerous killer is on the loose in their area an elderly couple befriends the good-looking stranger at the counter and give him a ride. No harm comes to them but obviously getting a BOLO from the head honcho didn't make much of an impression.
The wanted man is holding a gun on a young woman he had befriended earlier in the day. She is charmed by him, too, agreeing to go out to lunch with him. The HP comes to the rescue a few minutes later, but she is pretty shaken by the experience. At the end of the show, we are cautioned to be more wary of strangers. Not all fugitives are innocent pediatricians.
