Across the Wide Missouri

Here is a 40-minute film diary of the construction a bridge across the Missouri River at Jefferson City in 1954-55. Today this bridge carries southbound traffic on U.S. 54 and 63. There is a northbound bridge to the east.

I worked in the Capitol during the last decade and walked across the river on the pedestrian bridge that was added to the eastern bridge many times.

I generally will snap a photo of bridges that we drive on. It's an amazing process, building a bridge. It's to Man's credit that people were inspired to create these thoroughfares. Ferries make more sense!
