The Case of the Wary Wildcatter

I don't know if the adjective "wary" aptly describes the wildcatter in this episode of Perry Mason. He pushed the car containing his wife of a couple of months over a cliff and was caught on film. He also sold at least 200% of his half of an oil-drilling project in an irrational effort to raise venture capital -- and pay off a blackmailer. When this rash wildcatter met his end, I imagine he was relieved.

Blackmailer to the sister of the dead wife: It’s bad enough doing some of the things that I do for money. Do you expect me to do them for nothing?

And PM to Della: Most people think the stories they read in newspapers can never happen to them.
