The melody lingers on

George and Ira Gershwin wrote the music for the Astaire-Rogers film Shall We Dance (1937). George died of a brain tumor about two months after the movie was released. He and his brother were very close, of course, and Ira was inconsolable after George's death. This song helped him begin to heal.  (Info from a featurette, "The Music of  Shall We Dance," included on the DVD.)

No, no, death can't take everything away.

Fred and Ginger reprised the song in their last film together, The Barkleys of Broadway (1949).
