"Troubles can pile up on a person."

A young woman from Southwest Iowa (Shenandoah, to be exact) disappeared in the fall of 1949. Her husband  been killed in a car accident in August, leaving four young boys fatherless. She set off on her own, telling no one where she was going. She ended up in Chicago, married again and eventually moved to New York City. Her sons were cared for by their grandparents, but the oldest boy always missed his mother. In December 1954, the mother was reunited with her family.

It's a kind of strange story. I'm glad things worked out in the long run.
