Beaned by a Bevo

I was looking for an obit for Harry Virgil English, who was elected to the Missouri General Assembly in 1910. Didn't find one but his name did appear in an appeal that went to the Missouri Supreme Court in 1910. He was a merchant and was assaulted by Patrick Clancy, who hit him on the head with a handy Bevo bottle. The case reads like the storyline for "M-Squad" or "Meet McGraw." You get a real feel for what was going on that night in October 1908.

In the appeal (google Clancy Bevo English in no particular order and that will be enough to take you to the right place), it is reported that the court instructed the jury that the Bevo bottle was a deadly weapon without any evidence that it was.
It was simply described as a "Bevo" bottle, whatever that means.
It might mean the same thing as this, although there is a serious date discrepancy. Bevo is cited in a 1908 case as being around (albeit  apparently not too well known among the judiciary) but Wikipedia says it wasn't brewed until 1916.
