Black Midnight Cake

2¾ cups flour
1⅔ cups sugar
⅔ cup cocoa
1¼ tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
¼ tsp. baking powder
1¼ cups water
¾ cup shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla

I. Oven to 350°. Grease and flour pans.

II. Measure all ingredients into large mixer bowl. Blend 30 seconds on low speed. Beat 3 minutes on high speed. Pour into pans.

III. Bake until toothpick comes out clean. 9x13 about 45 minutes. 9-inch layers about 30 minutes.

Voice of experience: This is a delicious chocolate cake which doesn't need frosting. A dollop of whipped cream and you're set.
