Memory bank, January 25

Funny how that piece of glass is wedged there. Let me just get my pocketknife and pry it loose. Well, what do we have here?

The 3,106-carat Cullinan Diamond was discovered by diamond mine superintendent Frederick Wells on January 25, 1905. The stone wasn't cut until three years later. Diamond cutter Joseph Asscher broke his blade on his first attempt to cut the stone. He was successful with his second strike. The gem split as he planned. And then he fainted.

It's hard to visualize huge diamonds, isn't it? You don't have to.
