Memory bank, January 22

In the 1990s I helped create a pretty decent videotape collection at the public library where I used to work. One fifth-grade boy came in after watching a movie he'd borrowed and said, "Do you have any more like Zulu?" He was captivated by it.

I never saw it until a couple of years ago and I was caught up in it, too. And so I would say, "No, Matt. We don't have any more like Zulu." Even I learned something about tactics watching it. A masterful film.

The Battle of Rorke's Drift began on January 22, 1879, and lasted until the following day. When it was over, 150 British soldiers turned back an attack by about 4,000 Zulu warriors.
