"I don't know why every state doesn't have it."

Says Missouri's first poet laureate, Walter Bargen, as he reflects on the title and the role it played in his life for two years.

Every state but
eight had poets laureate
in two thousand nine.

(Is Minnesota's Robert Bly the same guy who wrote those books about manhood?)

One of Bargen's responsibilities was to compose a poem about Missouri, which is "Moon Walk Missouri." I immediately get sidetracked by the auditory memory of a screen door slamming. Gone are those springs, replaced by pneumatic closers. No more careless slamming. Only the intentional now.

It was good to know that Mr. Bargen was an excellent first choice. Laureatewise, big shoes to fill.

{I guess blogging doesn't suit him though. How many millions of blogs are there in cyberspace where someone walked only once, in a manner of speaking?)
