When movies move

"Gettysburg" is a long movie based on Michael Shaara's novel The Killer Angels. It's very gripping, especially the Battle of Little Round Top. I visited Gettysburg National Military Park a couple of summers ago. We took the bus tour of the grounds and I mentioned the making of the movie to our guide. He was very dismissive of it. That annoyed me no end. He had contempt for tourists that came to the battlefield wanting to see the spot where Sergeant Buster Kilrain had fallen. Kilrain was a fictional character and people are such rubes. A lot of the things depicted in the movie didn't happen or didn't happen the way Shaara said they did. Blah, blah, blah.

Yeah, well, buddy, watch this. The soundtrack and the way Jeff Daniels (as Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain of Maine) yells, "Bay-o-ne---ts!" make me weep to this day.
