VMI was founded on November 11, 1839. It is the oldest state-supported military college in the United States. Several members of my family were in Lexington, Va., on July 3, 2006. For me the highlights of our overnight stay were visiting the George C. Marshall Museum (across the road from VMI) and visiting the grave of Stonewall Jackson.
General Marshall was an extraordinary man, one of the most distinguished alumni VMI will ever have. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1953 and it is on display at the Marshall Museum.
