Slippery slope

I just learned that Ray Price and Willie Nelson did another album together. I bought "San Antonio Rose" (released in 1980) this summer and enjoy it so much. "Run That By Me One More Time" was released in 2003.

One of the reviewers on Amazon cautions: Don't get this hoping for something as good as San Antonio Rose. So I was warned but I bought it anyway. It doesn't need to be as good as "San Antonio Rose." I already have that.

What worries me is that, due to my recent buying and browsing history, Amazon is suggesting CDs I might like. Faron Young. Ferlin Husky. Carl Smith. Fair enough, even though I will not be buying any of their music. But honestly. Webb Pierce? Tomorrow it will probably be Ernest Tubb. Followed by Roy Acuff. A slippery slope, but my footing is sure enough to stick with the singers who can actually sing well.

I did succumb to one suggestion. The CD was less than $6. It's Hank Thompson's "Vintage Collections." I don't really know Hank Thompson's music but I liked that one of the reviewers called it "classic twang." He did Texas swing, honky-tonk tunes -- and he can carry a tune. That seems to be what I am drawn to in 2009.
