Hand me that Wite-Out!

James Ewell Brown Stuart's grandfather was Speaker of the House during the fourth session of the Missouri General Assembly. Alexander Stuart never met his grandson, dying two months before Jeb was born. Alexander was a judge in St. Louis and was back in Virginia visiting relatives when he died.

I assume Alexander Stuart is buried beneath the marker, a tall white pillar with a carved inscription. (See Picture 4 here and click on the photo to enlarge it.) At some point a bronze plaque was attached to the stone, surely to capture the engraving before time wears the original away. There is very plainly an error with the birthdate for Alexander Stuart. Oops.
